We both get a huge amount of energy from not just connecting with lots of people, but also giving something back. Our measure of success for each podcast, event or initiative, is that if one person was inspired, helped or got some value, then it was all worth it. Read about ways we are creating social impact, plus how to get involved.
Ammar Mirza CBE - Founder of PIE Project
“Inspiration North is making a significant positive social and professional impact through their various initiatives. James and Michelle are communicating, collaborating and celebrating the whole of our society to help realise ambitions and raise aspirations.
Their positive outlook and regular output through the podcasts, events and programmes are now a stable diet for anyone that wishes to grow and be happy.
They continue to do what they set-out to do, which is to inspire all of us. Long may they continue.”
ONE MILLION STEPS
James randomly connected on LinkedIn with Ranjit Ghoshal, founder of One Million Steps (OMS) - a mobile app integrating health challenges with fundraising to drive social impact and change. We teamed up to create an Inspiration North challenge to get people moving to improve their health and wellbeing, to do this as part of a community, and raise funds for a great north east children's charity called PIE Project.
In 2020, over 2 challenges, walking a total of 1,000 miles our community of steppers help us to raise £1,387 for PIE Project!
Check out some of the photos that we took every day for 90 days.

“I still remember the very first time I spoke to James. He had found Million Steps online and there was such a buzz, a kindness and synergy in what we believed. James has been so important in my journey, and that of Million Steps. And a simple theme which my grandfather used to say. “Every day is a New Year's Day to start something good. Just start.”
That alongside a quote from Mark Twain that had a huge influence on me at about 14 years old: “Let us so live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.”
Between the two, it is the Million Steps Philosophy. Everything you need is already in you. You ARE the medal. Make it shine. Start. Persist. Learn. Repeat. And if every moment is a moment to do good, for society, for yourself – that moment is always now.
James gave me my important "Now" moment. And we started.”
Being part of a community is an uplifting part of our weeks. We bring together inspiring people and speakers through our Inspiration North Meetups to make authentic connections without the sales pitches of classic networking events.
Through our sister company Work Pirates (WP) we also run online gatherings for people professionals who want to make a difference to the world of work. We share, laugh and learn!

Greg Johnston - CEO, Team Evie
"Since connecting with James a few years ago the relationship between Inspiration North and Team Evie has grown and been incredibly beneficial. From our initial meeting when I appeared on the podcast James and Michelle have supported me professionally and us as an organisation which has led to some fruitful collaborations for us!
Through introducing us to One Million Steps, James started our working relationship with what is now our biggest fundraising stream, without this I am not sure how we would have coped throughout the last 12 months!!
The guys at Inspiration North have also donated proceeds from their online events which we hugely appreciate, helping us to continue to support sick children and their families across our region."
We volunteer for the charity Action for Happiness (AFH) - a movement with over 245,000 people involved in 180 countries. We run their 8-week "Exploring What Matters" course, "10 Keys to Happier Living" events, Happy Cafes in real life and online. The online events have been held twice a month all though lockdown - a fixed calendar event to maintain social connection and support mental well-being.
These are all donation-based events with all proceeds going to the charity. Our community, local to the North East, has grown to include people from the rest of the UK and other countries.
